2017s-conv-info - GMCMI

This is the first Vintage Motorhomes Celebration
hosted by GMC Motorhomes International (GMCMI).
Traditionally, GMCMI holds two conventions
during the year (spring and fall).
We have on occasion had other vintage motorhomes
visit our six night convention. During these times,
the discovery of the motorhomes and their owners was so exciting,
we decided to invite all of you to a Vintage Celebration and
we can promise that you will have a time to remember!

If your group would like to hold a meeting, session, etc.,
we have the accommodations for you!
Contact Kim at 612-501-4600 for more details.

Please bring literature, ads, etc. of your vintage coaches.
We will have bulletin boards available to display such items. Thank you.

>> Mac the Fire Guy

An RV fire is a terrifying prospect and if you have never experienced one, you probably do not appreciate how quickly it can get out of control.

Mac McCoy, better known as “Mac the Fire Guy”, is a respected authority in the field of RV fire safety.

First, Mac will teach us, how important it is to understand fire itself. Many types of extinguishers are available, so it is important to choose the right one based on the type of fire you might encounter.

Then onto the hands-on demonstration of how to put the fire properly out.

>> Ladies Luncheon with Maxine and her dog, Floyd

Maxine, the cartoon character, with her drooping, grayish exterior and sour spirit to match, has made a big impression. She seems to peer through dark glasses directly at readers, scrutinizing and examining. Then the scrawny old woman utters a humdinger of a crabby comment. That’s Maxine, speaking out for the older generation and making a lot of smiles in the process.

The Ladies of the Tulsa Lunch Bunch is hosting a Ladies Luncheon in honor of “Maxine” and would would like to invite all the ladies to join them on Monday, March 27 at 12:00 pm.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see attendees dressed as Maxine? Or even maybe Floyd, the dog! It is not necessary to dress up, but if you wish, please do. Most importantly join us for a grumpy funtime!

>> The “She Shed”

Ladies, join us at “She Shed” session…blankets, crafts, treats and more! The blankets are easy to do. You don’t even have to sew! Just bring one yard of plain fleece and one yard of printed fleece and your scissors. The blankets are donated to local charities. If any of you ladies have a special craft you would like to share, please let Kim know. Thank you!

>> Pineblock Derby

Get those GMC racers ready for the GMCMI Pineblock Derby! For GMCMI Pineblock Derby Rules go to gmcmi.com/gmcmi-pineblock-derby/. Those of you who have made additional GMC racers, please do bring them to the “Celebration” so that others can race them. Thank you!

Pre-Celebration Offerings

>> Visit Factory of the Largest Pair of Overhalls

One of America’s authentic and enduring symbols of superior workmanship and spirit is Round House Overalls, a Shawnee staple for more than 100 years. Shawnee Garment Factory, the maker of Round House Overalls, is Oklahoma’s oldest operating manufacturing company. Find out how they are made and see the world’s largest pair of overalls! A tour has been arranged and will leave the grounds at 9:00 am on Friday, March 24. There is no cost for the tour (approx. one hour tour). Pre-registration is required. Please reserve your spot on the registration form. Minimum 24, maximum 60.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum will take you on a chronological, self-guided interactive tour through the story of April 19, 1995, and the days, weeks, months and years that followed the bombing of Oklahoma City’s Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. After visiting the museum, a National Park Service Ranger will present a site orientation talk about the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial. Upon your return to the bus, you will proceed to Golden Corral for lunch.

We have made arrangements via motorcoach to the museum in Oklahoma City on Thursday, March 23 leaving at 8:00 am and returning approx. at 3:00 pm.
