The beginning focus at the next Convention will be on the venting of the fuel system. Handout can be found at gmcmi.com/ technical-presentations-papers.>> Removing the Distributor for Minor Servicing | Dick Paterson Dick started with an illustration of a failed distributor. He then described the procedure for removing the distributor, inspecting it, disassembling it, servicing/repairing it as needed, reassembly, and re-installation.He placed special emphasis on the use ofthe proper di-electric grease for the electronic module and lubing allparts with relative motion.>> The Oldsmobile/GMC Oiling System| Dick PatersonDick explained the fundamentals of the oiling system ofthe engines used in the GMC Motorhome. He explained precautions for start-up, operational temperatures, and the unique characteristics of the oiling system. When discussing filtration, he remarked that the most important filter is the air cleaner! He is a strong advocate of using a filter magnet and synthetic oil.>> What’s Up With ElectronicFuel Injection | Randy Van WinkleRandy is always agreeable to discussing the merits of electronic fuel injection (EFI) with Convention audiences. While the information presented is similar from Convention-to-Convention, he always looks for ways to whet owners’ interest in “coming back for more”. As atprior Conventions, his remarks addressed such questions as Will EFI prevent vapor lock? Will I see an increase in mpg? Should I allow the computer to control spark advance?How hard is EFI to install? During his Elkhart presentation, owners expressed much interest in the vapor lock prevention aspects of electronic fuel injection.Owners also voiced much interest in the FiTech alternative to the Howell/EBL system. Randy hosted a thorough discussion of the characteristics of each system.>> Headliners | Randy Van WinkleRandy explored options for headliner replacementwith the owners and invited them to share their experiences. He described materialsthat can be used for headliner replacement and procedures forremoving the old headliner material and installing the new material.>> Repair of theSMC (sheet-moldedcompound) andthe Use of Epoxies| Tom McManusTom described hisprocedure for repairingdamaged fiberglass withepoxies. He emphasized thatthe fiberglass material used inthe GMC Motorhome does notdent nor rust. He stressed the importanceof properly preparing the area to be repaired and how to do it.He further described the characteristics of the epoxy choices for repairing damaged areas.
