Or in the caseof our MG Car Club, rallye season. The MG Club hosted their 65th annual “The Rallye Glenwood Springs”, the oldest continuously run road rallye in the country. It takes a lot of work by a lot of dedicated folks to pull off an event like this, and to keep doing it without fail for 65 years. Kind of like a mini GMCMI Convention. Eileen and I check ran both the Rallye (detailed, demanding, time/ speed/distance event) and the Tour (no actual rules, the Tour Master makes up his own, fun, entertaining, enjoy the scenery and answer questions, some tricky.) We did this tohelp the Rallye and Tour Masters, and to help ensure well written and safe events. Then the weekend after of the event, we went off to the GMC Mountainaires first rally (without the final “E”) of the season at Parrish Ranch in Berthoud, Colorado. This September at the GMCMI Fall Convention at Elkhart, Indiana, GMCMI will be celebrating our 35th anniversary. That’s right, 35 years of fun, fellowship, friendships and support, all centered around our common love of the GMC Motorhome. (Note that when Ralph Luby founded GMCMI in July of 1982, the Rocky Mountain MG Club had just finished hosting their 30th annual “Rallye Glenwood Springs,” and that was the 12th event that Eileen and I had participated in.)Now for the “Preachy Part.” The MG Club’s “Rallye Glenwood Springs” has persisted, without missing a year, for 65 years, some would say against all odds. We hope itcontinues for another decade or two. But it will not continue forever. There will be a “last Glenwood.” And when there is not anotherSo, I ask allof you. “What can you contribute?”– STAN EDWARDS, GMCMI PRESIDENTGlenwood Rallye, it will probably be because not enough dedicated folks stepped up and volunteered to commit theirtime, energy, and yes, love, to make the event happen. The parallels to GMCMI are strong. Both organizations are largely volunteer run. Both require members to step up to the plateto volunteer their time, efforts and skills to ensure that the organization remains strong, significant and vibrant. We’ve allheard the term “new blood” as in what all organizations require to remain viable. Not necessarily new people, but people making newcontributions. So, I ask all of you, “What can you contribute?” And when asked, seriously consider making the commitment. Better yet, why wait to be asked? Step up and volunteer where you think you can make a contribution. Hopefully, GMCMI will someday be celebrating a 65th annual event (approximately 2047.)2016-2017 GMCMI Board of DirectorsStan EdwardsPresidentLarry McLaughlinVP NortheastSue BlackshearVP EasternKerry PinkertonVP SoutheastRandy Van WinkleVP South CentralDale RoppVP Great LakesLucy WeidnerVP MidwestMarilyn PeltzerVP Rocky MountainEmery StoraVP WesternCarol BaxterVP NorthwestKim WeeksVP AdministrationJanet FreySecretaryFred HudspethTreasurerJohn SmyrskiNational DirectorKeith WeeksAlt.
