With the coach parked in an open carport, weather can make it difficult to get much accomplished. Last week (early January) Colorado was enjoying high winds, cold temperatures and snow. (Three of the ski areas are temporarily closed because of too much snow – like 80 inches in three days.) The last couple of days have been warm,50s in the day, 30s at night and I can get a little done before the next cold and snow, predicted in a few days. I may get a little sympathy from some of our southern members, but I don’t expect any from the northern folks. They probably think I have it easy, and really,I do. We should be ready to leave for Lake Havasu and Puerto Penasco, Mexico by early February, as planned. Then we meander across Arizona,New Mexico and Texas on the way to Shawnee, Oklahoma for the Spring Convention.Speaking of meandering, the above is a rather indirect way of bringing up the GMCMI Spring Convention, which will be a Vintage Motorhomes Celebration. We have invited “Class A Vintage Motorhomes” to join with us. There is a list including quite a few pictures on the website (gmcmi.com/vintage-motorhomes/) of some of the coaches we might see. Some are attractive, and some are, let’s say, “unusual in appearance.”Hopefully there will be some interesting examples in attendance. Registration forms and information for the Spring Convention are“Join us this Spring in Shawnee, OK and plan on celebrating GMCMI’s 35th Anniversary this fall in Elkhart, IN.”– STAN EDWARDSin this issue of GMC Vintage RVing. (See page 18.) So please, make your plans to attend, and get your reservation in early.Locations for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 Conventions are respectively: Elkhart, Indiana and Tucson, Arizona. Both areas provide a wealth of attractions to explore during, before or after the Conventions. Elkhart is home to many RV manufacturersand RV part surplus stores. Also, Shipshewana with the Amish shops and restaurants is nearby, as is South Bend, with Notre Dame University and the Studebaker Car Museum. Tucson hasSaguaro National Park, the Arizona Desert Museum, the Pima Air and Space Museum, the mothballed fleet of military aircraft at Davis-MonthanAirbase, a Titan missile silo, a copper mine and the Kartchner Caverns. Death Valley, California is not that far from Tucson. Heck, as long as I have gotten you into California, might as well take the spring and summer to explore the west coast and meet up with us wherever the Fall 2018 Convention is.Please consider Billy Massey’s request for folks to sign up to potentially be “pinch hit” drivers. Doing so could provide a very valuable service, and peace of mind for a fellow GMC owner.
