Most issues with the transmissions revolve around heat related issues and lack of lube. Usually, failures are a result of multiple issues. Some transmissions have lived for over 300,000 miles.>> How to Sell (or Buy) a GMC| Jerry WorkThere will come a time when you will need to sell your beloved GMC Motorhome. An article from the presentation is on page 13.concern with the first generation product. Jason hinted at a possible upgrade path for existing owners but that those decisions have not yet been made at FiTech. Other questions centered on the throttle linkage and Jason provided some good ideas on how to adjust the linkage for better operation in our application. Jason was very knowledgeable and the audience was very impressed with his expertise and frank discussions about the products that are used in providing fuel management for the GMCMotorhome. He reinforced the concept that the FiTech system is aimed primarilyas a carburetor replacement and that spark control provided bythe original HEI mechanically controlled distributor is a goodway to go.>> Electronic Fuel Injection – Facts andFiction | George Beckman & Randy Van WinkleThis session explored the advantages of converting to an electronic fuelinjection (EFI) system such as faster start-up, shut-downs, reduced engine wear, self learning features, and altitude compensation. Some common questions about EFI systems were discussed including: Will EFI prevent vapor lock? Will I see an increase in MPG? Should I allow the computer to control spark advance? How hard is EFI to install? George and Randy covered many aspectsof what causes vapor lock and how to position components to minimize chances of experiencing vapor lock. Aftermarket EFI systems have become very competitive driving down the cost. The session compared three different systems that provide excellent functionality for our owners: The Howell with EBL kit providing fuel management andspark control; FiTech which focuses primarily on fuel management with fuel delivery utilizing their optional Fuel Command Center concept; Holley Sniper, a new offering which competes directly with FiTech and promises to have the same capabilities, plus a more robust spark advance control. This session explained how all these systems provide self- learning capabilities.Weighing of the CoachesHal and Blanca StClair are to be thanked and congratulated, along with the entire team of volunteers, for an efficient weighing of coaches at the Tucson Convention. Hal brought his impressive truck scales. Not only are they verythin (and heavy) but he has six of them so that the coaches couldbe weighed without the usual moving for each axle. The setup was so efficient that simply getting the data recorded was almost a bottleneck. Twenty-five coaches were weighed, a couple of them twice, and had their ride height checked in a little over an hour.>> Brakes –part one and two| Dave LenziThe objective of thissession was to acquaintowners with the brakebooster, master cylinderand combination valveson Vintage Motorhomes.Items addressed werecommon problems of lowbrake pedal, excessive pedaleffort and vacuum leaks. A test standwas used to show the operation and problemswith the various components by comparing master cylinder pressure output between different master cylinders and with different levels of vacuum. The importance of having a reliable and effective backup vacuum pump was discussed. The functioning of the brake system was displayed in real time using a video camera to project onto a large screen for ease of viewing by the audience.>> FiTech Fuel Injection| Jason OberhelmanJason is a FiTech engineer responsible for new product development. He discussed the different products that are provided by FiTech. Many owners have installed the FiTech system which generateda lot of questions about certain aspects of how the system works. Many questions centered around the Fuel Command Center which has caused issues with some owners. Jason explained that a new upgraded Command Center has been developed and has now replaced the initial generation of the product.
