On August 21, 2017 an event occurred that captured the attention of the nation. It also attracted a number of GMCers who planned gatherings to celebrate this historic event.Wheatland, Wyoming | GMC MountainairesVicki and Steve Parmley invited GMC Mountainaires to join them at their home to view the eclipse. Everyone had a great time!Dillard, Georgia | GMC No-Host Rally | TOM PHIPPS | SPANISH FORT, ALABAMA | 1975 TRANSMODEThe famous GMC No-Host Rally Group realized that the Eclipse was another worthy event that needed our attention. Since the total darkness path covered the Northeastern corner of Georgia, it was tasked to Johnny Bridges to find a suitable site for a no-host. He chose the River Vista RV Park. He immediately made ten reservations knowing we could fill them easily. Tom Phipps obtained the special sunglasses early, so there would be no last minute panic. Very early,we put this event on the GMCnet and invited everyone to join us for the weekend. No-host means no rally fees and no adult leadership. Sandra Price had the very excellent idea to do a group meal at the Dillard House, a wonderful local restaurant. She made the reservation and we had about 35 people enjoy a family-style served meal with prime rib. Many other side disheswere served. By the big day, we had 13 plus GMC Motorhomes and three other brandsin attendance. As time approached, we all grabbed our chairs and waited in front ofour GMC. During the first third, the sun began to be covered by the moon, then the clouds moved in and blocked the totality. But, the underside of the clouds darkened and the animals started to react to the unexpected dark. The clouds moved on and we were able to see the last third of the event. Everyone agreed that this was a great rally. In case you missed this one, the next total eclipse will take place in April 2024!2:36:54 PM 2:37:06 PM 2:37:32 PM 2:37:38 PMFALL 2017 GMC MOTORHOMES INTERNATIONAL 29
