tRVer’s Good Neighbor PolicyRest areas along interstate freeways generally prohibit overnight parking, but many malls, truck stops, fraternal lodges, and commercial business parking lots allow it. FMCA asks motorhome owners to abide by certain etiquette standards when parking at these locations. The code pertains to establishments that permit “dry camping” on their lots. Dry camping means camping without the use of external hookups for electricity, water supply, or waste disposal.Industry-Sanctioned Code of Conduct1. Stay one night only!2. Obtain permission from a qualified individual.3. Obey posted regulations.4. No awnings, chairs, or barbecue grills outside your RV.5. Do not use hydraulic jacks on soft surfaces (including asphalt).6. Always leave an area cleaner than you found it.7. Purchase gas, food, or supplies as a form of thank you, when feasible.8. Be safe! Always be aware of your surroundings and leave if you feel unsafe. If your plans include touring the area, staying for more than one night, or necessitate conduct not within the code, please relocate to a local campground. It is the right thing to do!Please do not take offense to this letter. It is only provided as a reminder that RVers must be perceived as good neighbors, or there will be more pressure to institute state, county, and local ordinances to prohibit parking on private business property. Thank you.Look Whos On FMCA.com?Priscilla Mercer remembers the night when her parents, Clifford and Evelyn Handy(a Frank/ Dodge/Travco Motorhome dealer in Braintree, Massachusetts) asked her if she wanted to go with them to a meeting in Hanson, Massachusetts regarding an association that was being formed for motorhome owners. She declined and off they went to the home of Bob Richter (founder and first president of FMCA). They returned home all smiles, telling her that they had joined and were the 37th member of the the new FMCA! We had many years of motorhoming since that day. Her parents started out with a Dodge Motorhome and ended up with a GMC Motorhome. When her father and mother passed on, she inherited their old number for their GMC!Hence, the “D” for daughter on the plate of their 1975 Palm Beach (second owner).Pictured left to right, John and Priscilla, their son Scott and their four-legged companion, Rocket.
