8GMC VINTAGE RVING MAGAZINE | GMCMI.COMGMCnetThe GMCnet is a service of gmcmotorhome.com. It exists as a result of the encouragement received from members of the Toronado Mail List which was used by many GMCers at the time. During the Summer of 1997, members of the Toro List urged Patrick Flowers to write a FAQ for the GMC Motorhomes. David Moninger of The IslandTime website offered server space for the FAQ, and the project commenced. Once the FAQ was published, response from GMC owners and fans was overwhelming, prompting the more ambitious project and gmcmotorhome.com was launched. In September of 1997,the circle became complete with GMCnet coming online. There are currently 1,443 members. Most of the archives are available for search purposes.gmcnet.orgThe Forum GMCnet Mirror – In about 2006 Eugene Mazzarana created an online forum style mirror of the mailing list for his personal use. He introduced it to the GMCnet for those that would like to interact in that more modern way. It has been wildly successful and works interactively. Anyone who signs up for either site is automatically signed up for the other. If one posts a message on the email list, it is received and displayed in the forum and vice versa. There are some kinks now and then, but for the most part works seamlessly.Back in the relative early days of the internet and 9600 baud modem access, there was much concern for bandwidth usage. Therefore no photos are allowed to be posted with text only messages. Therefore, we posted our demonstrative photos and “how to” photo albums on free photo sharing sites and then posted the urls (internet page addresses) pointing to them within the email message.gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforumGMCnet Archive Google Group, is a READ-ONLY archive of the GMCnet mailing list. groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/gmcnet-archiveGMC Motorhome Photo ArchiveIn late November of 2002, Billy Massey introduced the archive for the express purpose of hosting GMCers photos and projects. There are pictures with searchable descriptions there of how to build your own rear disk brakes, how to modify your couch so that it does not cut off the end of your finger, and pictures of tricked out coaches with extensive fiberglass modifications and paint jobs, how to pull an engine and overhaul it. You name it, it is there! Club rallies and get together photos are welcomed as well. The GMC Motorhome Photo Archive is exclusively for the advancement of our GMC Motorhomes. It is free and continuously available. Its existence is just one more reason why our machines are the most highly sought after classic motorhomes in the world. As of last November, the site contained 49,597 photos in over 3,052 albums by over 1,614 registered users.gmcmhphotos.comWow, was that enoughinformation for you? This feature story and the entire magazine illustrates the adventure of owning a GMC Motorhome.
