>> 4-15-2022 | Spring 2022 GMCMI Convention is Cancelled in Patterson, Louisiana Due to COVID
It is with sincere regret that GMCMI is forced to cancel the Convention scheduled for April 22-28, 2022 in Patterson, Louisiana. Due to COVID among set-up team members onsite, it is in the best interest of our GMCMI Community that the Convention be cancelled. Proceeding would further risk the Convention becoming a “spreader event” among those attending.
On behalf of GMCMI, we are communicating the cancellation by this email, personal phone calls to all registered attendees, and through social media. GMCMI will be refunding all Convention fees in full. No action on your part is necessary.
We regret that this action is necessary for the Spring Convention, but believe the decision is in the best interest of our GMCMI Community.
We look forward to seeing you at the fall GMCMI Convention at Lebanon, Tennessee.

>> 6-30-2019 | URGENT! Need Help with the First Two GMCMHs Sold to the Public
FROM: Bill Bryant, GMCMH Historian
We GMCers are fortunate to have located the FIRST TWO production GMC Motorhomes sold to the public in 1973. These historically significant coaches are TZE063V100021 & TZE063V100022, here is the explanation of the TZE numbers.
Production numbers 0001 thru 0020 were used primarily for testing and other early purposes. When that usage was completed they were then to be scrapped. Therefore the 0021 & 0022 coaches were the FIRST sold to the public and still exist!
I had made a serious effort in locating a reliable person with the funds to purchase and restore the coaches to original condition (as new). That person committed to me that was his interest and intent. Just recently I have found the deal has not been completed and I do not believe this individual is the right person to complete this important project.
I am looking for someone else who has the interest, knowledge and means to make this historical project happen. I shall provide further details with those who have the abilities to accomplish this effort.
Ideally I would like to see both of these first two GMCs restored together.
They are owned by two different owners in two different states. My suggestion is someone might like to own both!
I do not have any financial interest in these coaches. My only interest is to see these historically important coaches get to the right person and can be restored properly.
No “tire kickers” please. This is a serious request, we all should be interested in getting this project accomplished.
Anyone with a SERIOUS interest and abilities should contact me and further details will be made known. This is a rather urgent request.
Thank you for your interest, Bill Bryant

>> 1-23-2019 | From the GMCMI President Dolph Santorine
There is an article titled “From Junker to Museum Piece” in the February 2019 issue of Family RV’ing (the FMCA magazine). It is the story of a couple who spent a lot of money to have a GMC heavily modified by contractors lacking the knowledge of our community, only to have it perform badly and drive poorly.
We know how much of a pleasure it can be to drive a GMC Motorhome that is properly weighted and aligned. Some feel that the article slighted all of our coaches.
I have been in touch with the editor of Family RV’ing magazine, and have composed a rebuttal on behalf of GMCMI, and it will run in the next issue of Family RV’ing.
Based on what was added to the coach in the article (outlined in a 2016 article in the same publication), we know the modified coach was grossly overweight and imbalanced. It likely had a stock final drive, wrong ride height, and probably a slew of steering/front suspension issues.
The couple donated the coach to the MH/RV Museum in Elkhart, Indiana after they became uncomfortable driving the coach. The donation earned them a tax credit equal to what they spent. The vehicle was high profile because of the company doing the conversion, the amount of money involved ($500,000) and because it looked interesting with a modern front end, tail lights, fittings, and awnings.
I have asked the presidents of the regional GMC Motorhome chapters to sign onto this rebuttal letter with me, and encourage you to contact the editor of Family RV’ing with your comments.
The editor of Family RV’ing is Robbin Gould and her email address is

>> 6-9-2017 | GMCMI News Release – FMCA Award
On behalf of the GMCMI Executive Committee, I am pleased to announce that Kimberlea Weeks has been chosen to receive the Robert L. Richter Award awarded by FMCA at the 96th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Robert L. Richter Award is given to a chapter member who is responsible for the publication of the chapter’s newsletter, chapter publications, or communications to the chapter and/or to the public regarding the chapter, its members, and events.
Robert L. Richter, L1, was FMCA’s founder and first editor of Family Motor Coaching magazine. Mr. Richter began publishing the association’s cherished periodical out of his home in February 1964. The first edition was “dedicated to those far-sighted people who can realize that here we begin a new era in American travel.” Mr. Richter’s vision was Family Motor Coach Association and Family Motor Coaching magazine would become a national information center for owners of motorhomes and for those interested in them.
I believe I speak for all the GMCMI members in saying “Congratulations, Kim!” What an honor for her and for our chapter, as we celebrate our 35th year.
Janet Frey, GMCMI Secretary

This is a list of GMC owners/supporters who are making themselves available for what ever assistance they can offer to other GMC’ers while on the road traveling. Whether it is only to answer the phone to tell them where the auto parts store is or to help change out an engine in your driveway, all owners are needed. Sorry no help for those in SOB’s. Just a GMC.
They are instituting a new column this year. It is whether or not you are willing and able to act as a “Pinch Hit Driver” for a GMCer in case he is unable to drive his coach home because of illness or injury. This is being done because of the case of Paul and Jackie Jones last August where FMCA Assist refused to send a driver because her coach was too old.
YOU MAY USE THE LIST EVEN IF YOU AREN’T ON IT. We would like to have you on it though.
To sign up for the list, which is not mandatory to anyone, click here to use the handy online form and you will be added to the list.

Plans are being made to share information and have some fun with the owners of these classics. This facility has been selected to enhance the opportunity for seminars, meetings and fellowship involving all these diverse and yet similar vehicles and their owners. Make your plans to join us. If you have information on these motorhomes and their owners, please email me so that I can reach out to all of them and invite them to join the fun.

Besides the great line-up of vendors, we have a bus tour to the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, a Car Show in conjunction with our Open House, a vast variety of technical sessions, plus too many other things to list here…check it out for yourself.
Oh, did I mention the Fabulous 50’s? On Tuesday, we will celebrate the 50’s plus a Sock Hop! Don’t forget your letter jacket, saddle shoes, poodle skirt, bowling shirt, 50’s memorabilia and your hula-hoop! Oh, men, how about that special product to slick back that hair….who will be the Fonzi look-alike? “See you there….or be square!”
>> 1-20-2016 | Wanda McConnell Update
The following was posted just a few hours ago on Luther McConnell’s Facebook page by his son Matt about Wanda:
I want to thank everyone for the prayers and good vibes. Unfortunately we lost my mom this morning just before 8. We know that she is in a better place and now is reunited with my brother Luke. God has gained a new beautiful angel to watch over us all today. Save me a seat up there, I’ll see you again one day. I love you mom.
>> 1-19-2016 | Wanda McConnell
Wanda has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It is inoperable and cannot be cured with kemo-therapy. The Doc said we probably only have only two or three months left with her. The only thing left is to keep her comfortable. Please pray for her and my family!
>> 1-14-2016 | Update on Dwayne Jacobson
Dwayne received the diagnosis in June of stage 4 mesothelioma-type cancer. It is not a tumor but more like a spider web on the abdomen, not on any of his organs. The cancer cells do sweat causing fluid build-up in the belly, which then needs to be drained. Each drain has been less liquid than the one before, which is a positive sign. He has undergone six rounds of chemotherapy three weeks apart, the final one (they hope) being five weeks ago. Dwayne and Sharon are making plans to spend more time in their coach this coming year.
>> 1-14-2016 | A Note About Members Allen & Pat Martin
Allen suffers from dementia now and had a shunt implanted in his brain last Tuesday to drain fluid and hopefully improve his mobility and perhaps slow the dementia. He was moved yesterday to the Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, near his home for more intensive care. Cards can be sent to the center accompanied with his name.

Plan to attend the first “Great GMC Motorhome Summer Get-Together” organized by GMCMI. At the KOA in Branson, Missouri – June 25 thru July 1.
Registration opens on April 18th. See you there!
>> 1-4-2016 | Message from Ashley Nicole Klakoski about Cherie Klakoski
I just wanted to let you all know that my mother-in-law, Cherie Klakoski, lost her battle with colon cancer Wednesday December 30th, 2015. Her and her husband Dean own a 1973 GMC Motorhome known as “Sunny Beaches”. We’re from Portage, IN. We’ve heard stories about all the GMC rallies they’ve attended, how much fun and how many awesome people they’ve met through this group.
